Planting Out Brassicas, Radish & Broad Bean Harvest & Chat: AWATP 10 - 16 June '24
Tuesday 11 June - I notice some of the dwarf beans which have herminted and broken the ground have been dug up and I'm sure it's by squirrels... and I get our brassicas in (Dazzling Blue Kale, Portuguese Cabbage, and the hybrid cross of DBK and PC);
Friday 14 June - I check various things around the plot whilst picking up two thermos flasks for a work social tomorrow. I also get the radish out that are now going to seed, and find out were in the middle of an incident being attended by emergency services;
Sunday 16 June - time to harvest our broad beans... not our best harvest though certainly not our worst... I also say how I will prep them and freeze then for portions of pesto through the ...

Просмотров 1,7 тыс.21 день назад
Tuesday 21 May - an early morning visit to the plot to open up a fellow tenant's and my greenhouse, and looking at our hardneck garlic as it's now ridden with rust and definitely going or gone over... so time to harvest! And with the very rainy weather we're due over the coming days it's best to get them out whilst they're dry... I'm back at the plot in the afternoon, though the rain due in 24 ...

I also notice germination in our carrot bed and also some germination in our basil; Wednesday 15 May - Our weak butternut squash are no more... munched to oblivion! However, the C...

Hope your ulcers gone I use Bonjella too when I get one. I think the weather will be better this week 🤞,, 🌸x
Hi Richard you are a credit to your department to do all you do. Pride in your workplace love it. I live in Southern Tasmania and we have long summer nights light until 22:00 recall talking to family on the mainland NSW when I first moved here saying it was bright light still at20:00. We have finally begun our real winter after really warm Autumn. I'm snuggly with the wood stove going and curtains drawn watching. Feel for you with the cool summer so far. You were given the gift fr what You did so no reason to share it! Chocolates for you enjoy!!! Tiredness, and ulcers can be symptoms. so glad I no longer have to worry about parking in cities.. or work. Love your blogs seeing normal life in other countries. Re cholesterol I worked for an incredibly fit racing car driver as their Nanny many years ago who had high cholesterol, at a very low fat diet, vegetarian, and his was all related to stress, and his high drive to be the best. So it is not all to do with diet.
The weather's really good this week, hope that helps the allotment. And heart felt condolences to the family who have lost their loved one x
My husband works shifts and they not regular ….my dog moves to the front door to wait for him 10 to 15 mins before he arrives I’ve wondered if it’s because my husband txts me to say he’s on his way but obviously I have other txts throughout the day so who knows? what I do know is he has a bigger heart and a purer soul than most people I know!
Oh Paul, better days ahead 😃. I certainly feel your pain re the slugs living in one of the rainier provinces. I hope everything takes off for you soon.
Ugh. The birds did that to some of my beans in Indiana USA. We caught them in the act. They just snipped them off and didn't even eat them. Love your videos!
Nice video Paul 😊
enjoy watching you with all your hard work growing your items, God Bless you, and stay safe
You poor bugger. How disheartening. You certainly are having a time of it this year aren't you? The last 12 months has been the same here. Just one thing after another.
Squirrels and chipmunks always go after my tender bean, sunflower and many other seedlings. They nip the stem and leave the two halves where it was growing. I repurpose a bandage cardboard tube (from work, nurse here) as a collar right when I see the littlest part of the bean coming up. They can’t get to the stem at all when the collar is properly lodged in the soil. It has helped with slugs too. But I’m in New Jersey, US. Sometimes when I don’t have the other type, I use loo roll inner tube, cut it into 1in-1 1/4 inch pieces. (These are not as sturdy.) Otherwise I would be forever resowing seeds. Try that.
Thank you 👍
Thank you for the video Paul. Will you double pod the beans before blitzing, I'm going to try your pesto recipe. My harvest will be similar to yours and I had to totally resow. Now being overwhelmed by blackfly 😢
Got my second sowing of brassicas out today, red and white cabbage, cauliflowers, kale and purple sprouting broccoli. Then sowed a few rows of carrots, golden beetroot, lettuce and very late parsnips, all casualties of slugs and snails. Jo Devon 🙂
The dang squirrels have been digging everything out of the pots I've planted. So far not out in the main fenced garden area. But now I think there's a bunny in there. It's kind of overgrown so I'm just cleaning out a spot and planting various things in. This week in eastern US it's going to be in the 90's! Unusual for this early in the year. I would glady send this heat to Richard ; ) I think you're doing a great job clearing up your allotment. Now if the critters would just leave your plants alone. Good luck this growing season. That broad bean hummus you mentioned sounds good.
Thank you Paul..😊its been a terrible year for slugs up to now! Hopefully this better weather will help with the slug problems! Its definitely been a challenging year so far..thanks for being real😊x
Thank you for this video.have a good week 😊
Good luck at the Doctors Richard. Also A Night To Remember is such a classic film, I have this on my dvd shelf and the book by Walter Lord
I feel like some things are growing really well, and other things are just doing nothing, but then I have to remind myself that there are some things that have only been in the ground for two weeks. I'm in the 'just see what grows' boat, this year, too.
It's amazing how one tiny spot on our tongue can be so damn painful and feel ten times the size that it actually is. Hope it heals quickly (they usually do, thank goodness🤞)
Wonderful as always. Bye for now.
It was a heat index of 111degrees today in Tennessee US and that is hot! No rain so I have to water the growing garden everyday trying to keep my plants alive otherwise they just could not go on. Enjoy your away time next week...Bye!
love watching guys, God Bless
I don't know where your Australian friend is from but we're just south of Adelaide, South Australia, and we get variation in the times of our sunsets. It doesn't vary as much as yours, but in the summer our sunset is about 9pm and in winter it's about 5pm. Bloody awful having an ulcer on your tongue. You have my sympathy.
I presume Northern Australia which is nearer to the Equator.
God Bless
I'm with you - those large dolls that have eyes that follow you around the room give me the heebie geebies. I find those realistic newborn baby dolls even worse. Yucko! Thoroughly enjoyed Sunday Chat - thanks 😃
Oh Richard. You do make me laugh when you make reference to Paul's hairy hobbit feet! lol. Keep smiling both of you. Thank for a great show! 🍌🍌🍌
Hiya Boyz Thankyou for the visit. Take care Luv Southern Ontario Canada 🇨🇦🐝
I’ve just found your channel and vlog . I just love it and you❤️You have those chocs ❤
Thank you! Welcome to our channel!
🥰👍💚💕
I left my phone at home so lost out on the free 🍌's last week. The till assistant asked do you know the number? I stupidly replied no, if I had my phone I'd call my husband to tell me it. 🤦🏼♀️ 😂
😢Im with you Richard! I dont do boats/hulls! Can't even watch boat/ship things on TV! My hubby has just been put on statins (water soluble ones, they have less side effects, muscle pain etc) gave us a fright as Doc said he'll likely to have a stroke within the next 10 years if he doesn't take them! I had free bananas too! Also a bag of oranges! Managed to harvest 3 beetroot Paul from my window box! Wahoo! Soon be ready to take on an allotment 😂, x
I always found dolls creepy and clowns absolutely horrific. I was a matchbox car kind of girl. Should have been a jolly good hint for poor old Mum.
Nothing beats real life comedy and you two present it well.😂😂 Thank You for the laughs in such a crazy world. Our two dogs know sounds they get jealous of each they know they are loved oh yes❤❤❤. 🔥 🔥 🥵 here across the pond including the same political shenanigans as you have Hay Ho🫣 Many Blessings Sweet Men❤ Grieving with you both in your losses😢❤
omg you’ve only gone and got me hooked on Children of the stones now. I’m on episode two. I don’t remember watching it as a 14 year old, maybe I thought I was too old for it, or maybe the opening credits scared me off, I don’t think so cos I’m sure that opening would have stayed with me lol.
Avebury is only around 20 minutes from me. Very magical place. Come joint us hippies!! 😂
Brackets are square, parentheses are curved😊
😂 love love love it darlings ❤❤
Thankyou ❤❤
Hugs to you Richard and Paul also on the love and memories of your dads.
Do you chaps do West Kenney longbarrow and Silbury Hill when you go to Avebury? Such a magical and fascinating area . X
Oh yes, we most certainly do. Last time we did Windmill Hill as well.
I lost my dad two weeks ago. Today is Father's Day in the US, it's a little rough but on Richard's advice, I will clean a closet. Also, I watched all the ads today (well, except the long one), your welcome.
I am so sorry and send condolences. Father’s Day and Mother’s Day hype still hurts after all these years……we love big and hurt big. Yes, clean a closet if it helps! My mom had always said this and it is a good thing to do. Hugs
So sorry for your loss x
Thanks for the chuckles once again. ❤
Thank you💕
Yes I am awake now
I’m proof that diet and exercise can lower your cholesterol. My doctor gave me the choice between statins or diet-exercise to try to lower my cholesterol and I chose diet-exercise. The bonus (I was going to say the “icing on the cake” but I’ve cut that out of my diet) is that I also lost weight with those lifestyle changes. 🚶♀Richard, I hope you can find a solution.
Hahaha....yes, I actually did suggest it for your hobbit trotters Paul! And you could eat it.....but don't! Yay for Sunday Chat....been looking forward to it all morning. 😊 Oooh, Avebury would be a great day out.....it's been a while for you I think? How insane (and vulgar) that Cranley is getting 'levelling up' money! Anniversaries can definitely make the emotions come to the fore again.....I'm feeling it too. XXX Quop.....never ever heard it before....what a fab word and I loved the history/literary references. Excellent word for Scrabblers! Creepy dolls cue spooky clock striking...... Have a great week lovelies. XXX
Be still my quopping heart.💓I think the Word of the Week should be "scutter."
I think something like this: consciousness sleeps in the stone, slumbers in the plant, is awakened in the animal and is awake in man. BUT certainly you can doubt that about the human race though...🫣
Good afternoon chaps ❤
Good afternoon Maxine!
Greetings, Relaxing with "Sunday Chat" ☕️ before off to work. Have a pleasant day. Cheers, Upstate NY
